The Black and White Chromis, Chromis margaritifer, is also known as the Bicolor Chromis. These fish come from the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The body is entirely black until it reaches the caudal peduncle where everything changes to white. Chromis are part of the damsel family; the Black and White Chromis is one of the most peaceful fish in damsel family. Chromis are omnivores and require a diet rich in meaty and plant foods, such as mysis and brine shrimp, marine algae, and flake food. The Black and White Chromis will only grow to about 3? and can be housed in aquariums as small as 50 gallons. Most of the fish in the Chromis species are hardy, peaceful, and best kept in groups of at least five to seven. They need plenty of swimming room and are very active. These fish are reef safe and will not bother coral or invertebrates.
