Amano Shrimp
Amano shrimp (Caridina multidentata) are popular, peaceful freshwater aquarium shrimp, renowned for being excellent algae eaters, especially of tough types like hair algae. They are larger dwarf shrimp, translucent with brownish/grey bodies and distinctive dotted or dashed patterns (females have dashes, males have dots). Originating from Japan/Taiwan, they thrive in clean, oxygen-rich water and are ideal for community tanks, but breeding them in home aquariums is difficult as their larvae need brackish water.
