East African Hermit Crab(Calibanarius africanus)
The East African Hermit crab is a popular, euryhaline invertebrate known for its dark brown to blue color and a unique, long hind leg. It has equal-sized pincers and is often found inhabiting the shells of snails like Tympanotonus fuscatus or Pachymelania aurita. A social detritivore, it feeds primarily on dead organic matter and can live in brackish, freshwater, or saltwater environments, though it fares best in brackish water.
